Strange Dreams |#MilitaryMonday

I had the strangest dream last night.

I dreamed that we moved back into the very first house we lived in in North Carolina, back in 1998.

It was a tiny house with a tinier kitchen.

Kind of like this…

It was small THEN, it would be unliveable now!

In the dream I was reorganizing and planning to create a kitchen that had more working space.

And then I dreamed that we found a brindle colored pug that we adopted.

I blame my son for that. He likes pugs. He insists that we have to get a pug because they snort. His friend in NC has one. I think its name is Stitch. Another friend in NC had one as well. My husband literally ran into a burning house to save it.

Stupid dog.

Sorry.

But back to the kitchen. If you could only have one, would you prefer an eat-in kitchen or a working kitchen with a separate dining area?

I tend to lean towards the eat-in kitchen. I like having friends and family sitting at the table and being able to work and chat at the same time. I think they are more welcoming to socializing and conversation.

Our new house has a completely separate eating area. The dining room is by the front door. The kitchen is to the back, and they are separated by the stairs and a bathroom. It is strange to have to carry the dishes & food down a hall to the table or back to the kitchen every day.

So one of the benefits of being a military family and moving as often as migrating geese, is that we have lived in quite the variety of homes over the years. 17 as a married couple to be exact. It gives us ideas of what we really will want when we finally retire from Active Army life.

On the check list:

In the Country.
A few acres for chickens, gardening and maybe hunting in the back yard.
Eat-in kitchen.
A big kitchen.
A storage area for all our tools & equipment.
I would like a well, not city water.

Those are some of the biggies.

So how about you? What kind of kitchen do you prefer?

If you are military, do you have your list of “when we retire?”
