Super Sloppy Joes from Cosmopolitan Cornbread

To begin, dice a red bell pepper and an onion.

DSC_0003_edited-1

In a large skillet, sauté the onion & pepper in a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over medium heat until tender.

DSC_0004_edited-1

Add in 2 pounds of ground beef (I used 1 lb beef, 1 lb bison) and cook until browned, breaking it up with your spoon.

DSC_0005_edited-1

When the meat is browned, drain off any excess grease. I use lean beef, so I rarely need to drain anything. Place the meat mixture in your crockpot.

Add in a teaspoon of hot paprika and a half teaspoon each of roasted coriander, garlic powder, salt, & pepper.

DSC_0007_edited-1

Add in 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, a tablespoon each of Worcestershire sauce, and red wine vinegar and 1/4 cup brown sugar.

DSC_0009_edited-1

About 4 or 5 dashes of Tabasco or other hot pepper sauce.

DSC_0010_edited-1

And finally, 15 ounces of tomato sauce.

Stir this all together. Cover and cook it on high for 3 hours or low for 5-6 hours.

  1. I have never seen such a beautiful-looking sloppy joe before! I love the powerful flavors you’ve used, particularly the Hungarian paprika – I love the stuff!

  2. I’m such a dork when I eat sloppy joes. I tend to by buns that haven’t been cut, then I only cut them 1/4 way and stuff my sloppy joe stuff inside. That way, less sloppy in my joes! Or if I do eat them normal I make sure my fries or chips are under my burger so I get sloppy joe fries/chips!
