Military Appreciation in Valdez, Alaska | #MilitaryMonday | June 11, 2012

Today, my husband is down in Valdez, Alaska. He has been there all weekend, and will be heading home soon as I type this post.

He went down to Valdez with a friend and neighbor. Why? Because once a year, the fishermen and charter boats get together to say Thank You! to the military. My husband spent the day yesterday out on a fishing boat…fishing! And he only had to pay for the trip down there, and for the fish monger to prep his catch. If you know anything about fishing charters, you know this is an amazing gift – something that would normally cost a pretty penny. It is such a blessing that they do this!

My husband saw lots of wildlife and beautiful things on his trip, and he took lots of pictures….all of which are still on the camera he has in his possession.

But he did send me this one with his phone yesterday.

I’ll post more pictures from his trip once he gets home and I can get them off the camera.

But he did send me another picture when he first got down there.

If you think back to January, you may have seen news stories about how the coastal towns of Alaska were being SLAMMED with snow. So much snow that they had to call out the National Guard to help shovel!

Well here it is June… and look at what is still there.

This is not a pile of snow that was plowed into a stack. This is actual snow fall. You can see the layers, like sedimentary rock, where the snow fell and settled, fell and settled.

It may get much colder here than it does down there….but I could not imagine that much snow!!! How about you?

For those of you in the Military Community – what sorts of things has your community done in an effort to support the troops?
